截至2016年年底,本港共有 7,262名註冊中醫和 2,647名表列中醫。只有註冊中醫方可處方《中醫藥條例》(第549章)附表1所載的中藥材。接近 90%的註冊中醫在私營界別執業。註冊中醫的年齡中位數為59歲,表列中醫的年齡中位數則為66歲。約37%的註冊中醫為女性,63%為男性。在2007年,女性和男性的 比例則分別為30%及70%。至於表列中醫,約 24%的表列中醫為女性,76%為男性,與2007年大致相約。

護士(包括註冊護士和登記護士)佔本港整體醫療人手超過一半。護士必須向香港護士管理局註冊或登記,方可在本港執業。在2016年年底,全港有52,389名護士(以註冊數目計算,由於個別人士持有多於-項註冊,實際人手數字會較少),包括39,178名註冊護士和 13,211名登記護士,或可分類為48,274名普通科護士和 4,104名精神科護士及11名弱智科和病童科護士。

牙齒衛生員的主要數據
牙齒衞生員是指按《牙科輔助人員 (牙齒衞生員)規例》(第156B章)第3條符合資格並獲香港牙醫管理委員會接納登記成為牙齒衞生員的人士。 牙齒衞生員的工作範圍主要包括清洗牙齒及刮牙、拍攝口腔X光照片及按照註冊牙醫的指示就與牙齒衞生有關的事宜提供意見。牙齒衞生員在登記後便會一直名列在名冊中,無須每年續期。截至2016年年底,全港共有424名已登記的牙齒衞生員,超過90%的牙齒衞生員在私營界別工作。約95% 的牙齒衞生員為女性,5%為男性。女性和男性的比例與2007年大致相約。

截至2016年年底,全港共有2,441 名註冊牙醫,當中有260人為專科牙醫。在港執業的牙醫有74%以上在私營界別工作, 其餘則受聘於政府牙科診所或公營醫院的口腔頜面外科及牙科部,資助機構及學術機構。註冊牙醫的年齡中位數為48歲。約32%的註冊牙醫為女性,68%為男性。在2007年,女性和男性的比例則分別為27%及73%。

截至2016年年底,本港共有14, 013名正式註冊醫生及134名有限度註 冊醫生,其中,有6,797人為註冊專科醫生。本港的醫生人數一直穩步上升。在1980年,本港有3,632名醫生, 到了1985年則有4,887名, 按每1,000人口計算的醫生比例分別為0.7和0.9。隨着本港第二間醫學院的成立及其首批學生於1986年取得醫科學位後,按每1,000人口計算的醫生比例在1990年進一步增至 1.1, 在 20 16 年再增至1.9。

Hong Kong has a very well-developed health system. The Hospital Authority (HA) oversees the public health system and manages Hong Kong’s public hospitals, clincs, and community outreach services. They are in good standard but they can be very busy. If you are not assessed as emergent you might wait for hours to see a doctor. Hong Kong Identity Card holders enjoy public health care and treatment at very low costs.

The private system runs alongside the public system. It is much expensive the the public one but it offers a higher standard of care. Usually, waiting times are shorter in private facilities, you can choose you doctor, and comforts such as private and semi-private rooms are widely available.

There are 50 public hospitals and 12 private hospitals in Hong Kong.
There are also many polyclinics which offer fundamental and additional services such as dentistry.

Certification in Hong Kong

All doctors must register as medical practitioners with the Medical Council of Hong Kong. Except the graduates from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, all graduates from other medical schools who want to work as doctors in Hong Kong are required to pass the Council’s Licensing Examination and complete a period of pre-registration internship training and assessment. There are great opportunities for doctors to work in Malaysia. The Health System in Malaysia is excellent and focuses on Research, Education and Service, to provide the best outcomes for both clinicians and patients. Medical Tourism is also a very important industry in Malaysia, as it is through many parts of Asia.

Private hospital positions can be rather difficult to obtain but it is possible for suitably qualified candidates as specialists/consultants.

Lifestyle

Malay, or Bahasa Melayu is the national language. English is the second language, widely spoken, and is taught in schools. Other Languages spoken are Chinese (Mandarin, Hokkien, Teochew, Hakka, Cantonese, Khek, etc), Tamil, Thai and others.

The lifestyle here is progressively becoming more and more modern with great exposure to the western culture. In Kuala Lumpur in particular, the way of life does not stray too far away from what is happening in the Western world now.

Malaysia is the meeting point of many diverse cultures, followed by people from various parts of the world. Malaysia truly is a melting pot of diversity and beauty. It boasts beautiful beaches and ancient, unsullied landscapes – but also rapidly growing cities with cutting edge architecture and world leading shopping facilities. Despite their many different backgrounds, Malaysians live in harmony.

Weather

The country experiences tropical weather year-round. Temperatures are from 21ºC (70ºF) to 32ºC (90ºF). Higher elevations are much colder with temperatures between 15°C (59° F) to 25°C (77°F). Annual rainfall varies from 2,000mm to 2,500mm.

Religion

Islam is the official religion of the country, however Malaysia is very tolerant and other religions are widely practised.
